Elections in Niger

Every five years, elections in Niger occur on national level for the head of state - the president - and a legislature. The president is elected for a five-year term by the people. The National Assembly (''Assemblée Nationale'') has 113 members, elected for a five-year term, 105 members elected in multi-seat constituencies and 8 members elected in single-seat national minority constituencies.
Niger has a multi-party system, with two or three strong parties and a third party that is electorally successful.
==Latest elections==

The Republic of Niger held a presidential election on 31 January 2011. The first round was to be held on January 3 and the second round on January 31, but those dates were postponed to 31 January 2011 (together with parliamentary elections) and 12 March 2011. The election follows a military coup in February 2010 ousting President Mamadou Tandja.
